Bailey Flying Service co-founder Mike Bailey, 73, passed away April 10 in Dalhart, Texas. Bailey was a longtime NAAA member and served on NAAA’s board for many years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow, April 12, at First Baptist Church in Dalhart. Funeral arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart.
Robert Michael Bailey was born Oct. 20, 1940, in Paris, Texas, to Robert Claude and Mildred Bailey. He graduated high school in Dimmit, Texas, and started farming in the Dalhart area. Mike then moved to Dalhart in 1963, where he farmed with his father. He met the love of his life, Jane Hunt, in 1964, and they were married on Feb. 13, 1965.
In 1973, Mike and his brother Jack started Bailey Flying Service, an agricultural aviation service in Dalhart. After retiring in 1997, he and his wife Jane traveled extensively. Today Mike’s son, Bob Bailey, who served as NAAA President in 2008, operates Bailey Flying Service.
Mike Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Alise and Anson Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Jane Bailey; two daughters, Sharon Smith and husband Tom, and Sandy Hamilton and husband Tommy; son Bob Bailey and wife Susan; his brothers, Kenneth Bailey and wife Pat, and Jack Bailey and wife Debbie; as well as seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a nephew and three nieces.
Mike Bailey was a generous man who will be remembered for his many contributions to NAAA. He received NAAA’s Outstanding Service Award in 2008 and served on a variety of NAAA committees over the course of his career, including the executive director search committee for the association in 1999.
On behalf of the NAAA staff and board, we extend our deepest condolences to Bob and the entire Bailey family on their loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
